Deadline March 31: 2010 European Publishers Award for Photography

This competition is open to all, but entries must be submitted from within Europe.  Plan on leaning on a colleague abroad to receive your package, and then forward on your application to the competition off to the organizers.

From the Dewi Lewis Publishing website link:

“We are delighted to announce that the 2010 European Publishers Award For Photography will again be sponsored by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG who will be represented on the Award Jury by Adriana Nuneva, Senior Vice President Global Marketing.

The company is known world-wide for its Heidelberg printing presses which are recognised as being synonymous with the highest quality of offset printing.

The 2010 Jury will be held in Greece and Apeiron will be the Project Leader.

Now in its seventeenth year, the European Publishers Award for Photography is a major initiative to encourage the publication of contemporary photography.

Open to photographers world-wide, the competition is a unique collaboration between six European Publishers – Actes Sud (France), Apeiron (Greece), Dewi Lewis Publishing (Great Britain), Edition Braus (Germany), Lunwerg Editores (Spain) and Peliti Associati (Italy).

The competition requires the submission of a substantial, completed and unpublished photographic book project. The winning project is then published in book form simultaneously by each of the publishers in their own country resulting in perhaps the most extensive cultural collaboration currently existing in Europe.

First Deadline March 30th: Magnum Workshops Toronto at CONTACT

From the Magnum website:

Magnum Workshop Toronto at CONTACT
May 3 – 7, 2010, Toronto, Canada
Application Deadline: March 30th

The Workshop:

During the Magnum Workshop Toronto at Contact, students will participate in an intimate 5 day shooting workshop with their choice of one of five Magnum Photographers: Stuart Franklin, Constantine Manos, Alec Soth, Chris Steele-Perkins and Alex Webb with Rebecca Norris Webb. In addition to the dynamic within each workshop, there will also be ample informal time for cross pollination of viewpoints and commentary with the other teachers as well as the other students.

Participants will produce individual projects over the course of five days with daily review and editing sessions within their groups. Focusing on story formation, visual literacy, and personal vision, these intimate, intensive masterclasses form the center of the Magnum Workshop Toronto. Prior to the workshop, each accepted applicant will be sent specific directives from their selected workshop leader.

The Requirements:

The Magnum Workshop Toronto is aimed at photographers who are dedicated to pushing their own personal photographic boundaries. This includes both professional and amateur photographers, but requires participants to arrive ready to work and to take their photography to a new level. Students are required to submit samples of their work for review before being accepted. The first deadline for acceptance is March 30th, and qualified applicants will be selected through a combination of the merit of their work and their personal statement, and the order of their application’s receipt. All applications received after April 10th will be reviewed, space permitting. Due to the fast pace of the week, participants are expected to arrive prepared to produce and edit their projects digitally. Students must bring their own digital cameras. For those students who would like to shoot film, they may do so but must have all film developed at their own cost and meet all required deadlines.”

Scotiabank is offering scholarships for this workshop!

Application Deadline for scholarship: March 20th

Scotiabank will be awarding five scholarships for Canadian photography students to attend the Magnum Photos Workshop.

For the third year, Scotiabank is proud to partner with CONTACT and Magnum to support the advancement of emerging photographers. Scotiabank is committed to supporting the communities in which we live and work, both in Canada and abroad.
