TUCSON: “Caring for Cynthia” discussion of project evolution to publication, October 8

October is BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH. In conjuction with this, and to offer insights into the process of publishing your photographic projects, there is an important event in Tucson on Wednesday October 8th that I want to share:

From the ASMP Tucson Press Release:

Join Amy Blackburn, Tucson Chapter President of The American Society of Media Photographers for a discussion of her recently published book “CARING FOR CYNTHIA: A CAREGIVER’S JOURNEY THROUGH BREAST CANCER” on Wednesday, October 8th at 5:15 p.m. at the Balfour Walker/Chris Mooney Studio in Tucson, 650 North 6th Avenue, in the West University neighborhood

Amy, a professional photographer and a registered nurse, journeyed with Cynthia, her best friend and breast cancer survivor once Cynthia was diagosed with breask cancer three years ago. “Caring for Cynthia” is a photographic essay about breast cancer, community and caring that transforms the caregiver’s feelings of helplessness and uncertainty into the feeling of being a valued companion on a privileged journey with a loved one. On Wednesday evening, Amy will share how the idea of the book was generated as well as her book publishing process.

Amy will discuss her experience publishing “Caring for Cynthia” from working with a coach, a book packager, a graphic artist, a book designer, an editor, a proofreader and a publicist, among a few who collaborated with the project, to the book design process, print process, website production, distribution, marketing and selling her book.
