Photo Review International Competition: Applications Accepted May 1-15

The 2008 International Photography Competition sponsored by Photo Review will be judged by Julie Saul of the Julie Saul Gallery in New York City.

“The Photo Review’s is “a competition with a difference” that enables thousands of people across the country to see the accepted work in our 2008 competition issue. Also, the prize-winning photographers will be chosen for an exhibition at the photography gallery of The University of the Arts, Philadelphia.

Awards include a Microtek ArtixScan M1 Dual Media Scanner ($650), SilverFast HDR Studio digital camera RAW conversion software from LaserSoft Imaging ($499), a Lensbaby 3G Lens and Wide Angle / Telephoto Kit ($359), a $250 gift certificate from Calumet Photographic, a $250 gift certificate for Museo Fine Art Paper, Lowepro camera bags ($200 and $100), two $50 gift certificates from Sprint Systems, and $250 in cash prizes.

Because their work was seen in The Photo Review, past winners have been given one-person exhibitions, have had their work reproduced in other leading photography magazines, and have sold their work to collectors throughout the country.

An entry fee of $30 for up to three prints or slides, and $5 each for up to two additional prints or slides, entitles all entrants to a copy of the catalogue. In addition, all entrants may subscribe to The Photo Review for $35, a 20% discount.

Duane Michals Lecture and Book Signing April 30, 2pm in Philadelphia

In conjunction with the exhibition “The Facts Of Life” artist DUANE MICHALS will present a lecture/book signing on Wednesday, April 30th at 2 pm at the Elaine C. Levitt Auditorium at the University of the Arts, 401 South Broad Street, Philadelphia.
The exhibition continues through May 2. Michals will participate on a tour of the show on Friday, May 2nd at 2 pm at the Sol Mednick Gallery, 15th Floor, University of the Arts’ Terra Hall, 211 South Broad Street, Phiadelphia. Gallery hours are M-F, 10 am – 8 pm, Saturdays 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sundays, 12 noon – 4 p.m.

Deadline for Applications to the 21st Annual “BARNSTORM” Eddie Adams Workshop is MAY 2

BARNSTORM, The Eddie Adams Workshop will accept applications until May 2nd.

From the website’s home page:

“The Eddie Adams Workshop is an intense four-day gathering of the top professionals in photojournalism, along with 100 carefully selected students. The Workshop’s purpose is to create a forum in which an exchange of ideas, techniques, and philosophies can be shared between both established members and newcomers of the profession of picture journalism. The Workshop is tuition-free, and the 100 students are chosen based on the merit of their portfolios.”

The workshop is being held at Adams’ studio in Jeffersonville, NY on October 10-13. If accepted, all you need to do is GET THERE – all other expenses are covered.

Applications are accepted online; all applicants must have letters on behalf of their application sent by email.

This is the most amazing experience for those interested in a window on storytelling – the faculty is incredible and as you will learn from the Alumni Updates on the website’s homepage.

PCNW’s 13th Annual Photographic Competition: Deadline May 9th

The deadline to for applications for the 13th Annual competition to be received by the Photography Center Northwest is MAY 9th.

Exhibition dates June 11 – August 28th at the PCNW’s Gallery in Seattle, Washington.
