Beate Gütschow will discuss her painstakingly orchestrated photographs, which compel the viewer to think about humankind’s celebration of nature and our ceaseless desire to control it. The luscious, digitally produced landscapes featured in the artist’s first monograph, Beate Gütschow: LS/S (Aperture, October 2007), draw on the work and traditions of Romantic-era painters as well as photo legends such as Lewis Baltz and Bernd and Hilla Becher.”
