STORYTELLING: Segment on PBS’ Newshour 4/18/07

Last night there was a compelling segment on PBS’ The Newshour With Jim Lehrer yesterday, titled “Technology Helped Virginia Tech Students Connect After Tragedy,” on the subject of media coverage of the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech. Jeffrey Brown noted the impact of content available on sites such as YouTube and MySpace as well as subject-specific websites in not just reporting but in memorializing friends and family via these globally accessible venues.

Included in the discussion were Jamal Albarghoutie, Virginia Tech student and iReport videographer, Martin Clancy of ABC News Digital, and Andrew Nachison, Co-Founder, iFOCOS, all of whom made valuable observations to this important discussion. Brown closed the piece by stating “The only thing not in question is that, as the tragedy at Virginia Tech shows, new forms of storytelling are developing before our eyes.”

I urge to you see this piece – in print, stream the audio or click here and then click on “Streaming Video.”
