I was greatly saddened to hear of Bill’s too early death.

My enthusiasm for photography past and present and my admiration for his editing of Creative Camera led to my contacting him in 1969-70 and suggesting I finance (modestly) a magazine which he could realise to his own perfectionist standards. ALBUM ran for a year, ahead of its time in some ways and a forerunner of the onward march of photographic imagery, before we reached the final image saturation of today’s digital photography.

Bill was a delightful, modest, generous, obsessive enthusiast and practitioner of the art. I was sad to have lost touch with him after so many years ( I don’t think he had email) but he must have been a wonderful teacher and found a true home in a country where he and his passion would be widely shared and appreciated.

Remembered with affection and admiration
