From the Announcement:

The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center is excited to host a free lecture and book signing
by photographer Mitch Epstein.  Mitch Epstein’s current work and book American Power examines
how energy is produced and used in the American landscape. Made on forays to energy production sites and their environs, these pictures question the power of nature, government, corporations, and mass consumption in the United States. Epstein has photographed nuclear power plants, coal plants, oil-drilling operations, and wind turbines, as well as the people and habitats that must coexist with them.

Books will be available to purchase at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center.

Mitch Epstein’s photographs are in numerous major museum collections, including New York’s Metropolitan Museum, Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum of American Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Epstein’s seven books include  American Power (Steidl, 2009) the retrospective monograph, Mitch Epstein: Work (Steidl, 2006), Recreation: American Photographs 1973-1988 (Steidl 2005), Family Business (Steidl 2003/Kraszna-Krausz Photography Book Award).

This event is part of the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center free lecture series by visiting contemporary artists.  Lectures are open to the public and serve the educational purpose of cultivating an active dialogue about photography.
